Akira

It has been many years since I last saw this film and I did not remember many of the details. The only thing I did remember was the ending was confusing. Turns out that is still very much the case. I suppose what happens does make some sense but you're still left with little idea as to why. When they made it they probably presumed you'd already read the original manga. Still it's managed to become a well known classic in the genre thanks to stunning animation and production values. All above and beyond the usual standard in 1988, future Tokyo is extremely well designed. In fact I believe it was the highest ever anime budget at the time and it shows. So despite the slightly nonsensical plot it's still a treat to watch.
